Astronomical Archetypes and the Origin of Myth

presented by Sean Tvelia

6:00 PM Friday, January 4, 2013
Parrish Art Museum
Parish Art Museum 279 Montauk Hwy

From Cygnus and Andromeda to Taurus and Cetus the mythology of the sky has been an integral part of civilizations around the world and have even inspired Hollywood movies. But why do so many civilizations recognize the same constellations and what do the stories of the stars tell us about ourselves? In this lecture professor Tvelia will discuss the relevance of constellation mythology to human civilization and also show why so many civilizations recognize the same celestial patterns.
