This summer, Jupiter will be riding high in the sky, and so what better time to talk about this amazing planet. Suffolk County Community College Professors, Sean Tvelia (Geology) and Dr. Mike Inglis (Astrophysics), will present an up-to-date lecture on our current understanding of this giant planet. Sean will discuss some of the myriad moons of the Jupiter, while Mike will cover what we know about the planet itself. With the latest images and most recent scientific data, this lively and well-illustrated talk will give an overview of the largest planet in our solar system.
Weather permitting, after the lecture Montauk Observatory astronomers will set up telescopes and give guided tours of the night sky.
Reservations are required. Call SoFo at (631) 537-9735.
The lecture and observing session are FREE, although donations to help support Montauk Observatory are greatly appreciated. To make a tax-deductible donation through Paypal, just click on "Donations" on our home page.
This event is being held to commemorate Earth Day, National Astronomy Day, and the conclusion of International Dark Sky Week.
